Gregory Shilling-Goins Art

Gregory Shilling-Goins

Gregory Shilling is a painter, sculptor, and muralist living in Sacramento. He is also an outdoorsman, a passionate birdwatcher and a loving partner and friend. Growing up, he drew animals and people constantly. In college, he explored a variety of mediums and made work that was arduous, experimental and lacking subtlety. Since receiving his BFA, Shilling has been making ends meet with design and mural gigs, while nurturing a consistent and ambitious studio practice. His work is a celebration of the figure and an exploration into storytelling, using body language and facial expressions as means of communication. Crucially, these works have a strong focus on composition and color palette. Until recently, Shilling has predominantly been a painter. However lately, his work has trended away from the canvas and toward sculpture. His recent pieces, made from layers of cut and sanded wood, bridge the gap between 2D and 3D art.
