Seongmin Yoo

Seongmin Yoo channels empowerment into her artistic practice, transforming anger from power imbalances into compelling visual expression. Drawing from her personal experiences with discrimination, she has navigated sexism in both Eastern and Western cultures and moved beyond societal expectations that urged her to devote her life solely to caregiving.

Yoo’s work addresses global women’s struggles, challenges stereotypes of Asian women, and highlights the path to becoming an artist through community and university projects. Through sculpture and painting, she explores themes of nature’s motherhood, environmentalism, and displacement. She believes that the way humanity treats the environment reflects how we treat ourselves, and her work seeks to inspire awareness, empowerment, and positive change.
