This is where things get a little sticky (and not in a good way). While smoking cannabis is legal in California for anyone 21 years of age and older (or 18 and older for medical patients) , it’s still illegal to smoke, use, eat or vape cannabis in public.
Cannabis consumption is not legally allowed in public, outdoors, or in a motor vehicle (even when the vehicle is parked).
Cannabis consumption is not allowed at most licensed dispensaries in California unless the business has a city license for onsite consumption (like us!).
It is illegal to consume cannabis within 1,000 feet of a school, day care center or youth center while children are present. It is also unlawful to smoke cannabis in places where it is illegal to smoke tobacco.
Cannabis may be consumed in a private business or residence if not otherwise prohibited by law (for example some cities have prohibitions against indoor smoking in rental units). Additionally, property owners may ban the use and possession of cannabis on their privately-owned properties. A private venue cannot sell cannabis unless it has a license from the California Department of Cannabis Control. You can see a list of all licensed cannabis operators here.
