Ice Cream Cake was bred by Seed Junky Genetics, the Lake Tahoe-based breeding operation behind some of the most influential dessert strains of the last decade, including Wedding Cake. The strain is a cross of two already famous hybrids, the aforementioned Wedding Cake and Gelato #33. Since Seed Junky doesn’t sell Ice Cream Cake as seed or clone stock directly to the public, most versions circulating today come from other breeders working off cuts of the original.

  • Genetics: An indica-dominant hybrid (Wedding Cake x Gelato #33), moderately challenging to grow — well suited to growers with some experience given its dense structure and sensitivity to environment.
  • Climate: Prefers a warm, dry climate outdoors (70-80°F / 21-27°C) with low humidity through flowering. Indoors, it’s sensitive to humidity swings late in flowering due to its dense, resin-coated buds.
  • Growth pattern: Short, compact, bushy structure with minimal stretch — very similar to its Wedding Cake parent, making it a good fit for growers with limited vertical space. Heavy lateral branching and dense colas often need support once buds fill out.
  • Flowering time: Around 8-9 weeks indoors; outdoor harvest typically early-to-mid October.
  • Yield: Moderate yields — similar range to Wedding Cake and Biscotti, with growers typically prioritizing potency and resin production over volume.
  • Susceptibility: Dense, chunky buds are prone to mold and bud rot in humid conditions, so airflow and humidity control are especially important. Otherwise reasonably resistant to pests.
  • Nutrients: Responds well to standard feeding schedules; some growers bump phosphorus/potassium in flowering to support its heavy trichome and resin production.
  • Training techniques: LST and topping help open up the dense canopy for light penetration; SCROG works well given its short, bushy growth habit. Branch support (stakes/trellis) is common once colas get heavy.
