Platinum OG

4.8 (247 reviews)

Platinum OG was bred by Apothecary Genetics, whose founder built the operation around collecting landrace strains from his travels and stabilizing them into hybrids suited for both industrial hemp and pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis. Platinum OG’s lineage traces to Master Kush and OG Kush, with a third parent that’s never been officially confirmed.

About Platinum OG Strain

Most accounts point to another OG phenotype or a purple-leaning landrace, but the exact identity remains one of cannabis breeding’s small, unresolved mysteries.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the Platinum OG strain:

  • Type: Hybrid (75% indica, 25% sativa)

  • THC Range: 20%–24%

  • Dominant Terpenes: Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene

  • Aroma: Sharp, gassy pine with an earthy sweetness and a faint floral note

That third mystery parent is credited with amplifying trichome production. Platinum OG earned its name from the shiny, near-metallic sheen its heavy resin coating gives the buds. The buds themselves tend to be lime green with prominent orange pistils.

THC generally runs between 20% and 24% in lab-tested samples. Marketing sometimes overstates potency beyond what dispensary lab reports actually show, which is something worth keeping in mind given how much reputation this strain carries.

Platinum OG Cultivation Notes

  • Genetics: A 75/25 indica-dominant hybrid, believed to stem from a cross of Master Kush, OG Kush, and an unknown third strain, speculated to be Purps or a Purps/Diesel combination. Considered by many to be the “heaviest” of the OG strains given its Master Kush/OG Kush pairing.
  • Climate: Can be grown either indoors or outdoors, requiring a Mediterranean climate — consistent with the broader OG-lineage family you’ve covered (OG Kush, Ghost OG, GG4).
  • Growth pattern: Buds tend to be small, dense, and sticky — indicative of its strong Kush genetics, with vibrant hues of alternating light and dark greens and subtle orange hairs throughout.
  • Flowering time: Flowering time indoor is 9 weeks — right in line with other Master Kush/OG Kush-lineage strains.
  • Yield: A yield of 200-350 grams/sqm — on the lower end compared to some of the higher-yielding strains you’ve covered (GG4, Adios MF), consistent with its dense, potency-focused Kush genetics.
  • Susceptibility: No unusual susceptibility specifically flagged across sources; standard mold/humidity vigilance for dense, resin-heavy Kush-lineage buds likely applies.
  • Nutrients: No unusual sensitivity reported.
  • Training techniques: No strain-specific technique called out; standard approaches for compact, dense-budded Kush-lineage strains (similar to Master Kush) should apply.
